Cluster Information

The cluster is led by Catherine Mazzaferro and Pamela Dzurilla, and the 1998-1999 school year marks its third anniversary.  There are fifty students currently enrolled who travel within the cluster for their four core subjects.

Since the students in a two-man cluster spend so much time with each other, what usually begins as a group of strangers ends up as a tightly knit community.  We try to encourage this attitude by planning as many cluster activities as possible.  Included are:

TMS Magazine Drive - Mrs. Mazz's home room has won first place for eighth grade for the past two years. This year these funds will go toward, among other things, a four day trip to Nature's Classroom and a hands-on Science Fair at Trinity College in Hartford, CT.

TMS Winter Dance - This 7th and 8th grade event was coordinated by the blue cluster, and students planned the entire dance, sold tickets, generated publicity, and completed the decorations.  The proceeds topped $700.

Nature's Classroom - There's so many wonderful things to say about this four day excursion...it really deserves it's own home page. Thankfully, it has one, and you can click here to view it.  Students are divided into groups and spend their time performing hands-on outdoor and classroom tasks under the supervision of qualified instructors. The subjects studied include dissection, aerodynamics, current issues in environmental studies, outdoor survival, and many more.  The students are responsible for maintaining their cabins, serving breakfast, lunch or dinner in shifts, and for cleanup of all meals.  For many students, this is the first time away from home, and it's both a challenge and an adventure.  Interested in a closer-to-home viewpoint?
