The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed.
The first line in the Dark Tower series, by Stephen King, and one of only a dozen or so first or last lines that stick in my head. The last book of the series, stretching a couple decades, has just come out and I'm in the middle of reading it now. Maybe it's because I was so young when I started reading the series, or because this is the first series started and completed in my lifetime that I've loved so much, or maybe because I've read it enough times to feel a part of it, but I'm so sad to see it end. I'm almost hesitant to keep reading. When I finally got around to reading the last Hitchhiker's Guide book (another read and re-read series), I was depressed for days with its finality.
I am still quite sick and now Greg is coming down with a cold. Apparently the little one is the only healthy one around these parts and no doubt she will be full of energy when she comes home. Off to work I go.
