I've come to the conclusion that my daughter and I are most connected via illness. She gets it, I get it, Greg doesn't get it. Greg gets something, we don't get it. She and I share an immune system, and so I must start taking vitamins, because this latest cold is going to be my undoing.

Art show this weekend! Babydoll will be attending and then going home with Grandma and Pepe Paulie (her own name for him) so Greg and I will have an evening of culture (tempered by food and wine). Two evenings of culture in two weeks. I'm going to consider myself a patron soon.

The little one had her first day out with a friend rather than a family member. Samantha decided to spend her own birthday with my rather unruly child, and despite my worries, they both survived- tantrum-free and plus several balloons. This is such a big milestone for us, and while I'm sad that my baby is no longer a baby, it's just so amazing to watch her grow up. Happy Birthday, Sammy!

Wow, thanks to gaiagal for directing me to
this site for one hell of a laugh.

I had a great time at "girls night in" last evening despite banging the hell out of my fender. There's nothing like a wine soaked evening with your friends, on the porch, under the stars, discussing laundry, weight loss, and bathroom habits. It's funny how you take your friends for granted when you're younger, but you appreciate the effort it takes to get together with them so much more when you're older. My grandmother (the Ma) had "Monday Club" for what seems like my entire life - about eight of my "aunts" and her would take turns every week hosting, cooking Italian snacks (I loved when Ma hosted it because it meant fried dough for dinner), and sitting around knitting, sewing, and gossiping. That is not a bad way to grow old with your girlfriends.

Blowhard though Michael Moore may be, it's refreshing to read a voice of reason these days. This country is on the verge of mass hysteria.

The blanket issue has resolved itself, somehow. A whole lot of self-induced stress for no good reason - parenting in a nutshell, lol. We stayed up very, very late last night studying for Greg's bio test - I haven't seen some of that stuff in eight years or more - but I must say he's got mitosis nailed better than I ever did!

OK, the Amazing Race was awesome last night. I don't think I've ever been in a room of cheering people who were cheering over a REALITY show finale, but it was just that good. Which I needed, as we had a little incident with The Cheech in which her blanket was not on her in the particular way she wished it to be. Which led to twenty minutes of her screaming hysterically, "not like that!" as I came up with new, creative, and utterly useless ways to fold a blanket. I have a feeling the Terrible Twos are going to last well into the teens with this one ;)

I had a fun and interesting evening last night, made a new friend (I hope), drank some wine, and saw Amy Tan speak. That's not usually my cup of tea but she was very intelligent and entertaining. I may have to rethink my determination to avoid culture.

This morning, however, I am pretty sure that the best thing to do would be to take a nap. I'm also pretty sure that that's not in the cards. Off to work!

Well, back to blogging, maybe. I figure I might be interested in reading it someday even if I never let anyone know it's here.

I realized this morning whilst trying to pry my swollen eyes open at the table, that I don't even care about the election anymore. To paraphrase TheOnion.com, my sense of outrage is exhausted. There's too much going on here At Home to worry about that.
